Beef three bean chili literally bubbling in the mid afternoon sunshine in my Sun Oven.

There is no other sports team that I hate and respect at the same time quite like the New Jersey Devils.  Their success can’t be denied.  They’ve always been a gutsy, hard fighting team.  Back during the late 90’s and early 2000’s I felt an odd pride when they would bring the Stanley Cup to the boardwalks of the Jersey Shore.

But my family comes from New York and I only root for New York teams.  So I reiterate, I’m a Rangers fan and I downright loathe the Devils.

The 1994 Eastern Conference Finals was the single greatest sports series that I have ever watched and if the Devils had won in double overtime in Game 7, it would have taken a long time to get over…2004 ALCS long.  If the Rangers are going to somehow win the cup, there’s no team I’d rather have to go through than the Devils.  I wish I was in Jersey right now because the next two weeks will be civil war.

Solar Oven, day 2.  Today the forecast was for completely clear skies with a high of around 85.  You don’t really get better weather for solar cooking.

I decided to start off with two fairly simple recipes: corn bread and fall off the bone pork chops with potatoes and sauerkraut.  The oven spent about four hours in full sunlight and reached just above 350 degree.  Both dishes turned out amazing.

Being that it’s my birthday and that I’m both an avid chef and a science nut, I bought myself a solar box cooker from Sun Oven International in Illinois.

Zeki and Coldplay agree it was all yellow.

I’m pretty psyched about this idea and it’s going to be hard to wait for the watch.
